Well, I was spectacularly unable to keep up with Fandom Snowflake this year, but at the bare minimum I'm going to keep posting these each Wednesday.
What I Just Finished Reading
This Will Be My Undoing – Morgan Jerkins
Overall, I enjoyed this read. Jerkins is occasionally out to find offense where there's none to be had, but the vast majority of her arguments are thought-provoking and it's a shame the people who most need to read them probably won't.
The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue – Mackenzie Lee
This novel is historical fiction featuring 21st century characters speaking in 21st century vernacular and reacting to their circumstances with 21st century mindsets. I don't believe people in the 18th century confronted different problems than do people today, but exploring how they confronted them—working with a conception of the world that's vastly different from ours now—is precisely what I love about the genre. There's none of that here, and I don't recommend this book.
What I Am Currently Reading
The Enlightened Gene – Arri Eisen & Yugdrung Konchok
The chapters on cell biology and propagation are vastly improving my recall of high school courses on the topic; if only my professors then had described the subject so clearly and engagingly.
Coding, Robotics, and Engineering for Young Students – Ann Gadzikowski
Be they academic or non- or for-profit, my experience of computer science courses is that their professors unerringly teach to the most advanced student in the group. I'm hopeful that materials for young learners will actually spend time setting out and reviewing the basics, which is what I'm after.
Eyes of Crow – Jeri Smith-Ready
This novel is set in an agrarian world whose inhabitants gain animal guardian spirits during adolescence. Our main character's guardian spirit is the crow, which allows her to see others' deaths. I haven't progressed much farther than that, but I'm intrigued by the set-up, for all its obvious debts to Pullman.
What I'm Reading Next
I'll probably just keep plugging away at the books already in progress.

Yep. Which is a pity, because it was a fun premise and could've been... not that.
