I have an unfailing ability to choose as favorites those characters who will die. Unfailing. And with that statement out of the way, spoilers on the latest chapter of Full Metal Alchemist.
My epic, I-adore-this-idea FMA WIP has just been jossed. In that oh-so-irretrievable of ways. For those of you braving the cut, this month's chapter in a rundown:
Ed & posse show up in Central to find that they've lost track of Rin, who's busy elsewhere being arrested for illegal immigration. Ed & posse do run into Hawkeye and Mustang, both of whom remember Winry from their earlier meeting, and Roy has a ridiculously cute scene where he hits on Winry like it's nobody's business. He immediately unredeems himself in the biggest act of pussydom ever when he lies to Ed about Hughes' death.
Meanwhile, Ross is being interrogated back at the ranch by Armstrong and Fallguy (if that's the correct romanization of the dude's name, I'll love Arakawa forever). Turns out Hughes was shot by a single bullet from her gun - the bullet she happened to put into our ensouled serial killer in chapters previous.
It so happens our serial killer sees the morning paper (courtesy of Officer Havok - another great name choice there), and springs Ross from jail, and what the heck? takes Rin along for the ride as well. The three run into Ed & posse, who also having seen the day's paper are going to find Ross And Get To The Bottom Of This.
Barry stops them while allowing Ross to run for it. Meanwhile, back at the ranch (again) a call comes into Mustang's office: Ross is on the lam, and all soldiers are authorised to shoot her on sight. Roy grabs his gloves, tells Hawkeye to hold down the fort, and splits into town to find Ross And Get To The Bottom Of This.
Ed manages to break by Barry and comes across Roy, who's just incinerated Ross.
Goodbye, my secret and guilty pleasure OTP for FMA. Who knows, I may finish the fic anyway, just because I love this pairing more than I think I should. Dammit, dammit, dammit, dammit.
SPECULATION: I don't think Roy really killed Ross. He'd have had to have located her pretty damn quickly. Also, he didn't have his coat w/ him in the office, and he sure is wearing it in the death scene. My money's on one of the Seven Deadly's human impersonator as being the real killer. But, wail.

Holy crap, I wasn't aware that she had said this. :O ::fears for Roy::
As much as I'm sad to see Ross get killed off, this does set things up nicely for some Ed - Roy tension/fighting/snarking (even if it's Envy-in-disguise, he still looks like Roy ^_^;;). I'm a little shocked that Roy lied to Ed about Hughes death though. I'm not sure keeping him in the dark is the best way of protecting him, Taisa, assuming that's what you're doing.
Great story. Great spoilers. Thanks again. :D

That it does indeed, but I have to wonder what Roy's up to, because he isn't dumb, and unless Arakawa's just become lazy, Roy would have to realise that there's no way Ed could be in Central and not hear about Hughes' death - it's still making the front page! So either he's manipulating Ed or he's just eaten something that's lowered his IQ considerably.

Agreed. He may have something up his sleeve. At the moment, it's really hard to say. I'll have to give the thing a reread tonight.
