Dear Fellow Coronation Celebrant:
Thank you so much for writing a fic for me! TGE is an excellent book with a fandom to match, and I am so excited to see your gift. Under the cut you will find my likes, DNWs, and some musings on each of the 12 tags I selected. But, but, but! I love this book and did sad puppy dog eyes at the 12 tag limit, so if you'd like to mix and match from the tags, or include additional characters or pairings, please do so! And if you'd rather riff on a single tag, that would be wonderful too because I would love to see any of these treated in depth. And having said that, for further prompts, please
Likes: Adventure, banter and repartee, cohesive magical systems, drama, found families, humor, hurt/comfort, language and grammar geekery, loyalty and loyalty kink, misunderstandings, reconciliation/redemption, social mores (and characters subverting/confronting/butting their heads against them)
DNWs: Eroticized rape, gratuitous violence, major canon setting divergence (e.g., high school or space opera), mpreg
Character: Maia Drazhar - Anything more about him will do the trick here. Vignette from his childhood? Go for it. "Where are they now" look at his fifth, eighth, 20th year of rule? Yes please. Maia with Csethiro, or his secretary, or nohecharei, or some/all of the above, G-rated or NC-17? Please, please do. He's such a great character; anything looking at what makes him tick, or just of him being him, is so welcome.
Character: Telimezh - I know Cala and Beshelar are the stars of the nohecharei show, but I have a soft spot for Telimezh. His confusion and disbelief when Maia doesn't dismiss him from service is one of my favorite scenes in the book. I would love to read anything involving his character - what he thinks of Maia, how he gets on with Kiru, his past in the Guard, what he does on his off days, his silly nerd hobby - run wild with this.
Relationship: Csevet Aisava/Deret Beshelar - I have been a fan of this unlikely pairing since On Yielding to Temptation convinced me it wasn't so unlikely. Anything, in any rating, with these two would be lovely. How do they get together? What attracts them to each other? How do they manage a relationship while in service to His Serenity, and in a society that looks askance at marnei?
Relationship: Csevet Aisava/Maia Drazhar - Their devotion to one another is one of my favorite elements of the book. How did their relationship start? How do they negotiate it given the gulf in their positions, races, upbringings, and social approbation? Do they save one another from danger? From humiliation at court? You really can't go wrong here.
Relationship: Deret Beshelar/Cala Athmaza - Oh god, these two. Nerdy, soft-spoken Cala with his core of steel, and judgmental Beshelar using criticism and standoffishness to disguise that he's not as hard-assed as he'd like to appear. Again, what brought them together, how do they negotiate a relationship while protecting His Serenity, where do they fit and where do they annoy each other - anything about these two is so welcome.
Worldbuilding: Linguistics - In the early pages, I almost put TGE down because I wasn't sure the blend of fantasy and steampunk would agree with me. The language element was what kept me going. Oh! To find a fantasy novel that takes language seriously. With grammar! And gender! And honorifics! And cohesive phonology! And internal consistency!! A fic in which scholars argue over whether Elvish and Goblin share a common root, and what that means for the understanding that they're racially distinct would send me over the moon. That said, any fic in which language (the second person pronoun, the gendered aspects of Elven) plays a starring role will make me so, so happy.
Worldbuilding: Goblin Maza/Mazei/Mazo - Such a cool prompt! Are there goblin mazei? How does their magic differ from that of their Elven counterparts? What does each think of the other's methods and philosophies? A friendly duel between Elven and Goblin mazei - or an epic battle in the past - would be amazing.
Worldbuilding: Nohecharei - Whether writing about any of our canon nohecharei, or their forebears, please give me more. How did the system begin? How has it changed over the centuries, and how is it changing in Maia's time as society heads into an industrial revolution? Who is chosen as nohecharei, and why? How are they screened? How are they trained? Please run with this.
Worldbuilding: Magic System - How does Elven magic work? What are its limitations? Is it affected by technology (ala Garth Nix's Ancelstierre/Old Kingdom)? Canon says Maia lacked the aptitude for it - why isn't it something anyone can learn? Is it so rare the maza academy simply had no choice but to put Kiru forward as a candidate? And if so, what did that debate involve?
Worldbuilding: Social Structures - How did the Elven court, with its secretarial civil servants, Corazhas, Guard, and nohecharei come about? A fic involving an inflection point (e.g., "And that's why His Serenity only has two soldiers and two mazei as nohecharei" or "And thus the first Ulismere was built") would be so, so sweet to read. As would anything looking at the lives of the common folk - tradespeople, farmers, urban-versus-rural populations.
Worldbuilding: Tentacle Monsters - This is such a great prompt, and that's all there is to say. Please make this your tentacle monster story. I can't wait to read it.
Worldbuilding: Politics and Diplomacy - Why did the revethvoran become an institution? Why haven't there been more challenges to the supremacy of the ruling house (or have there been)? Why was the Guard established, and when did it become largely ornamental? What are the Elvenland's relations with the goblins and the other surrounding nations really like? How does Maia change them? Politics is one of my real life fascinations, so there's really not any way you can go wrong exploring this prompt.
