Merry Christmas, to those that celebrate it. More on my awesome Yuletide gifts in the coming hours, but first:

What I Just Finished Reading

The Hobbit – J.R.R. Tolkien
As satisfying now as it was when I first read it decades ago. It’s also an object lesson on the benefits of being first through the door because The Hobbit is chock full of stuff I don’t tolerate in fantasy novels since: Bilbo’s reliance on luck over skill or knowledge. Magical items and abilities that appear just when the characters need them. Gandalf as a lovably eccentric old man-slash-wizarding badass whose magical prowess is more than equal to any situation...unless the plot demands that it not be). And on and on.

But Tolkien did it first, so I can love it.

What I Am Currently Reading

The Virtu – Sarah Monette
Mehitabel is such a badass.

Lazy Sunday Book – Bill Watterson
Back in the day, I received a Calvin & Hobbes collectiom every Christmas until there were no more collections left to give. It’s sacrilegious to choose a favorite, but yo, this is mine.

What I'm Reading Next
The GC and I acquired Mac Bennett and Jon Klassen's Triangle and Square today, but no unread books, which is certainly a freak occurrence as far as our Christmases go.
