What I Just Finished Reading
Alas, nothing this week.
What I Am Currently Reading
The Binding – Bridget Collins
I think a future Big Reveal was set up on page 39, but if my suspicions are correct, I am down for the ride. (And how is it that I regularly manage to stumble across these books?)
Opium – John Halpern & David Blistein
A little under halfway through, this book continues as speciously argued and sourced as ever; it would behoove anyone trying to write authoritatively about the Opium Wars to understand that Canton and Guangdong are the same thing.
Witches of America – Bridget Collins
Started as I continue to cast about for the right book to read. I’m only 22 pages in, but I can sympathize with Collins’ self-professed “curiosity about the outer edges of belief.” The other thing that immediately struck me about her narrative is how far Paganism has come since the pre-Internet days of D.J. Conway and Gerina Dunwich books in the New Age section of B. Dalton.
The Ninefox Gambit – Yoon Ha Lee
The GC is making noises about reading this one, so I thought I would revisit it myself. So far I’ve only reread the first chapter, but am very much enjoying diving back into this universe.
What I'm Reading Next
I'll probably try to wrap up at least two of the above before I start on anything new.
