What I Just Finished Reading
Last week I didn’t read anything I didn’t finish; this week I didn’t finish anything I've been reading.
What I Am Currently Reading
The Armored Saint – Myke Cole
This story of a young peasant girl in a medieval France-based fantasy world ruled by a fanatical religious order is, so far, one of the more well-written and enjoyable Tor freebies I’ve tried.
The Devourers – Indra Das
I picked this one up way back when it was first published and, rather unusually, remember very little about it—I think because I was extremely busy with work at the time. Das’ prose is not my stylistic cup of tea, but Scandinavian/Bengali half-werewolves certainly are and I’m glad to have picked the novel back up.
The Bird King – G. Willow Wilson
The horrendous paper quality still makes my skin crawl, but oh man, is this book good. Wilson’s narrative pacing shows a marked improvement over her debut, which was already a strong novel in its own right. Her descriptive language is as beautiful as ever. And her characters are so wonderfully rounded; every one of them has strengths and flaws, and resentments and blind spots that Wilson deftly lets the narrative show readers, instead of telling, telling, telling.
What I'm Reading Next
No new books acquired this week. I’m considering rereading The Chronicles of Prydain or the Dark Is Rising sequence next.

I am embarrassed to admit I own Iron Council and have yet to even crack it open. ^^;;
Hope you at least ended up getting some sleep!

Iron Council isn't something I'd recommend to folks. But I too have had possession of it for quite some time before I started to read it. It is a good read but not and easy one. I hope you take the plunge sometime. I think it's worth it.
