- Beginner knitting tutorials for a very specific purpose. I really do not like synthetic fabrics, particularly in socks. Since skeins of 100% wool yarn cost considerably less than pairs of 100% wool socks, I figure I might as well learn how to make the things myself.
I'm not interested in becoming a bona fide knitter--I already have too many hobbies that require a bunch of specialized materials and items to add another to the list--so I'm interested specifically in tutorials for absolute beginners that ideally focus primarily/entirely on the tools and skills to make socks, and nothing else. If you know of any resources that fit this bill, please share them! - Help keep me accountable. I generally do pretty well with posting and ficcing at the start of the year, but then fall off doing both precipitously once the pace of work heats up. I'd love it if someone would be willing to poke me daily? weekly? to make sure I keep up with DW/fandom stuff alongside paying for rent stuff, because the former is really good for my mental and emotional well being.
- Rec me a boardgame or deckbuilder! I gravitate toward cooperative but enjoy competitive games too. Fantasy, sci-fi, and pre-modern historical settings are easy sells. Any difficulty level is fine. I have previously bounced off of Catan, Risk, and Terraforming Mars but enjoy Betrayal at the House on the Hill, Dragonfire, Dominion, Gloomhaven, Hive, Pandemic, Root, Small World, Splendor, and Wyrmspan; and I'm intrigued by Azul, Boop, and Carcassone, but haven't got around to playing them. I'd welcome any recs that seem like they fit this mold.

The one issue is that it's a local company, so idk how findable it is outside of my region. Here's a link to their site, anyway: https://firestarter.games/products/reforest/

I'm also a huge fan of Dungeon Lords (build and populate your evil dungeon and fight off those pesky adventurers when they show up) and Galaxy Truckers (build your spaceship, load it up and brave space to earn as many credits as you can). Both are competitive but more in the 'game is trying to kill me and other players keep getting in the way' than 'fisticuffs at dawn between players' - so PvE with competition.
And there's always Arkham Horror, which, like Pandemic, is not forgiving of poor cooperation, so is a nice juicy challenge, especially if you like Lovecraftian horror.
Hopefully something there that you might like.

* Chrononauts -- Best time travel game ever. Cooperative element: don't blow up the universe you're standing in.
* Call to Adventure -- A character-building game, and after you finish playing the game you usually have a usable character. Also unintentionally hilarious if you've read The Hero with a Thousand Faces and/or the Aarne-Thompson Index.
* Fluxx -- A fun card game even if you're out of brain. Now available for many fandoms and other themes.
* Imaginiff -- Compare your friends to random things, and you're trying to get the most people to pick the same option. If you have less than 8 people, it is amusing to fill in the gaps with famous figures or characters.
* Planetarium -- Build a solar system! Cooperative element: you can agree on which planet(s) are to be habitable, an iceworld, a lavaworld, etc.
