...make a post.

Friday being Valentine's Day we went out for dinner, which was fun, but the venue was clearly trying to rush people through so that they could get drop-ins seated between reservations. I'm glad it wasn't our first time at the place; we would not have walked away with the best impression. That said, the food was still good, and the drinks--and service--at the second venue were excellent.

Saturday was the first session of my Irish dance class. I was a bit worried about what to expect, but gelled immediately with the four other people who were waiting in the lobby when I showed up. They are such cool people! We had a great time conversing and getting to know each other, which made up for the fact that the instructors started the class without us 😑 (The emailed instructions were very clear that we were to wait in the lobby; apparently not everyone read them because over half the class proceeded straight into the studio and the instructor began teaching them without first bothering to see whether anyone had followed the instructions...)

The class itself was fun and my muscle memory remembers more than I assumed it would. And again, the people I met in the lobby were super cool. So cool that five of us (+ the GC) went out for brunch afterwards. We now have a class chat. And plans to meet up and practice during the week.

After brunch the GC and I walked over to the nearest library for some long-delayed bookgazing (our branch being closed for renovations), and then walked several miles home. It rained the entire way and I was in my element.

Sunday was meant to be an in-person reunion with Second Oldest Trivia Group, two members of which have on sabbatical in a faraway location for the better part of a year. Alas, they came down with seasonal illnesses while traveling back, so the get together was cancelled. I sent the GC off to play Card Wars, downloaded all *mumblemumblehundred* of my amazon ebooks, and then had a lovely 2 hour walk by myself during which I headed for the greyest clouds I could find and enjoyed a short but excellent squall for my troubles. Once back, I made the most of my remaining super duo trial by obsessively drilling vocabulary in multiple languages.

Sunday evening I embarked on a massive dusting of all the bookshelves pursuant to Monday's planned cleaning. This evolved into a massive bookshelf rearranging project (with a break for the GC and I to go get Thai) that extended well past midnight.

As a result, our books are now (allowing for space and height constraints) arranged by author and/or subject, i.e., all the Pratchetts and McKinleys are shelved together, all the Japanese history and culture volumes are shelved together, etc. I am...not convinced that I like it. There was something really charming about how individual books had just sort of ended up next to one another that's gone now. On the other hand, the volumes we use most frequently are now on the easiest to access shelves, and I freed up a good deal of space by culling some persistent shelf-sitters into the bargain.

Today was a Day of Industry. We did the laundry; dusted, swept, and vacuumed the entire place; finished organizing the bookshelves; cleaned the fridge and the bathroom; organized and culled paperwork; went to the grocery; worked on rehabilitating an old computer; did some major digital organizing; undertook a minor DIY vehicle repair; and spent a couple of hours on a silly work project (only to be stymied by some bad website coding that has prevented me from completing it today). Oh, and we somehow found the time to game and watch our current weekly show and finish the latest season of Dragon Prince into the mix.

Which, Dragon Prince, oh my lord, what a show. What a horrifically creepy villain, and a bunch of amazing emotional payoffs, and a very satisfying ending that still leaves open the possibility of a follow-on series. (Please let there be a follow-on series.) I'm already planning on a rewatch.

Wow, you've been busy! I prefer keeping my books in order, but I know it's not for everyone. Getting rid of books you're never going to read is always a win, though!

My husband and I usually avoid Valentine's weekend and go out the week before or the week after because like you said the restaurants tend to want a high turnover.

I'm so glad your Irish dance class went so well! It sounds like a fun group.
