Last week I posted about my latest houseplant acquisitions. Well, it turns out, I wasn't done.

As I was heading back home I encountered, on the treelawn, a plant that had had half its leaves shorn off, its pot removed, and had been dumped on the sidewalk. I took it home, popped it in a new pot, and gave it some water.

But that wasn't all. As we were heading out to dinner, the GC pointed over the fence and said, "Have you seen that one? It's been there since last night."

There was indeed a large potted plant (that someone had probably ripped off from somewhere else) lying on its side on the building grounds.

"If it's still there when we get back," I said, "I'll take it."

It was, and I did. I thought it was probably boxwood. According to the store tag, it's actually Japanese holly (and ironically from the same Suburban Ur-Mart where I'd purchased my other plants that day.)

A week later, both seem to be doing pretty well. It'll be interesting to see how good I am at growing a topiary/large bonsai, because I'm pretty sure the holly is generally a landscaping plant. The bulb, now much revived, looks similar to my two amaryllis, and I'm interested to see if that's what it will turn out to be if I can coax it into flowering.
