I don't dare to go too far back ... I get too embarrassed! (I found some I wrote in a diary when I was ten ... Star Wars Luke fic ... *dies* - soooo embarrassing!)
Ah, I feel your pain. To my sadness and chagrin, I haven't been able to find some of the fics I most wanted to revisit, while many of the most poorly written one's have been preserved for all posterity. Go figure. ;)
And I used to have all of them archived until good ole pere used my computer to look at Internet porn and destroyed it with eSTIs.
Sadly, I can't find the apple mint fic, which I think might have been one of the best from that period. I also discovered a Vampire Chronicles fic I had forgotten ever having written. There is one copy of it on Way Back, but it's corrupted and truncates halfway through, leaving me desperate to find out what happens next in the story that I wrote.
I *might* have it archived as an email. I managed to salvage a number of fic in that format from back then but not all. One of my favourite XF MK stories by a long absent author sadly didn't make it, and it was never archived on any fic site. 😢 I'll have a look when I get home & see what I can find.
Oh man, if you have it (or anything else, for that matter), I would be forever in your debt. Further poking about has made me realise I also lost all my early HP fics after the Snape FQF went down. It bothers me to a surprising degree to think they're just...gone.
And what was the author/fic? It's a long shot, but I might still have stuff from the early Yahoo ML days.
Also, there is an MK fic I've been trying to find forever, in which Mulder(?) goes to a cabin in the woods, gets sick, and imagines (or does he?) an encounter with Krycek. I think it was called "Cabin Fever" and for some reason that Bren Antrim wrote it, but I cannot turn it up anywhere online. Any chance this is ringing bells?
I'm going through old archives I have; did you write a HP fic titled Wolves? I have a file without an author attached to it, but it has the J version of your RL name in the file name. Also found a copy of Another Side, saved as htm pages from probably your webpage at the time. I have saved stuff on old drives that I can kind of access and god only knows what I have burned to cd. Sadly anything on floppy is now completely inaccessible. The one machine we have that has a floppy drive is an ancient laptop that runs, iirc, Windows 3.1.
I don't remember the name of the fic, but I think the author was PK Jackson. It was set during the time Mulder & Krycek were partners.
I think know the fic you're talking about, but I don't think it was written by Bren Antrim, unless you're thinking of The Deal; iirc Mulder is in a motel room, is drugged and ends up having sex with Krycek.
OMG, yes! That was Wolves, Lower, which I set down to move to Japan and then never picked back up. Oh, I had such plans for that fic. And, wow, Another Side. Have you looked at it? Is it enough to scare you off? I was so proud of it at the time but I wrote it when I was but a wee Trismegistus and I am not sure if it would hold up very well. I think I still have The Den of Men on floppies somewhere, but god knows where I've put them.
You wouldn't happen to have the URL to the Earthlink page I used to have, would you? I can't remember it, so I can't check to see if the Wayback Machine has any of it archived.
Alas, the name PK Jackson is not ringing any bells. :( Here's another one for you though: do you remember an unfinished MK story with an original character named Fairland Davis? That was one I always wished had gone somewhere.
And I'm not thinking of "The Deal." In the story I'm trying to track down, Mulder is in a cabin in the forest somewhere, gets a fever, and Krycek shows up to provide sex healing before disappearing. When typed out it sounds cheesy and horrible, but I remember being very impressed with it at the time. :p
No, I haven't had the time to read it properly, but the little I did was still good. And you would be proud of it; 'twas my inspiration for my longest fic I've ever finished writing :D And because of that fic, I put the link to your story in the header of mine: http://www2.crosswinds.net/russia/~alexkrycek/den1.html
Sorry, that fic doesn't ring any bells at all. It must have been good for you to remember the OC's name after all these years.
Why, I ask you, is that the one that disappeared from the net while the other crap has persisted? Thank you, thank you, for keeping a copy of that around.
Yes, but not the one with Armand and Krycek (that one seems to have been archived all over the place, for some reason). The one with Armand and Vittorio.
To which you are now saying, "You wrote a fic with Armand and Vittorio?" I know. I had the same reaction. I'd love to know how it ended.
I haven't brought myself to reread the Armand one yet. I think it will have probably aged better in my mind. ;) That said, the Vittorio one is kinda not-half-bad-ish as far as mimicking Rice's style goes, at least.
