Snow! I will probably still be schlepping in to work tomorrow. But all the same, snow!
What I Finished Reading This Week
i’m just a person – Tig Notaro
I knew nothing about i’m just a person other than that Tig Notaro wrote it, and I’ve liked her TV appearances and Under A Rock. I did not know that Notaro had been nominated for a Grammy, let alone why, and so I was completely unprepared for how heartbreaking this book would be. I devoured it in less than a day, and can only spout a bunch of trite-sounding words in trying to review it: raw, honest, unflinching, heavy, moving, really, really damn good. The chapter “God Never Gives You More Than You Can Handle” alone justifies the cover price. This one is visceral and excellent and will stick with me for a long time.
What I Am Currently Reading
Witch Wood – James Buchan
I am really enjoying this one, and will probably have it finished by tonight.
The Strangler Vine – M.J. Carter
Because: The Strangler Vine sync read! Chapters 1-4 discussion here! Full schedule here! Discussion post for Chapters 5-8 will go up on February 12.
Join in if you are so inclined!
The Broken Raven – Joseph Elliott
Picking this one back up after a long hiatus.
Complete Book of Ceremonial Magic – Lon Milo DuQuette & David Shoemaker, eds.
This week’s chapter, “Demonology & Spirit Evocation,” by Stephen Skinner, was a real dud.
What I'm Reading Next
I…may have gone a little nuts. Aside from the Notaro, I acquired J. Anderson Coats’ Spindle And Dagger, Paraic O’Donnell’s The House On Vesper Sands, T. Kingfisher’s Paladin’s Grace, Adrian Tchaikovsky's Empire In Black And Gold, and one other book.
