Drabble: Nani ka hitotsu

Death Note? Is consuming my soul. Hence more ficcage than is likely good for me. We shall try to stem the tide for now with a drabble.

Spoilers up through the 2nd tankoubon; 100 words on the dot.

Nani ka hitotsu

      They have each surely missed something, and whoever discovers the other's omission first will emerge victorious. Light thinks he's finally done just that as he rests his chin in his hand and scrolls through the pages of photos. 'Tennis' and 'England Junior Championship' - a simple Google search was all it took. And there he is, five years younger, but it's undoubtedly him. Light reaches for the Note, then pauses. What if it isn't his name in the caption? His real name? A smile spreads across his face. Well, we'll find out, won't we? he thinks, and begins to write.

ow, ow, ow, and i want to desperately reassure myself that L isn't that type, he wouldn't bother with winning championships, he wouldn't even join a team, because OW, if it ended like that? NO one has a secret identity at fourteen; fourteen IS a kind of secret identity and you do your best to make it up as you go along.

But L is the type - he's said so in the manga. What I wonder is, was that just a red herring, or his unconscious slip? (And don't I wish we had a scene with Light trying to figure this out, because it doesn't seem like the sort of thing he'd miss.)

I wish Light will grow a soul. Oh do I wish. And then we can have massive, massive angst when he finds out who he was. And then lots of happy comfort sex with L.
