Made a nice start on another Gojyou x Hakkai this evening. (I can't help but think that this may have something to do with the three HP/SS FQF stories I should be writing.) It takes place sometime far after the events in Into Bed. At the moment, it amounts to little more than some POV musings on Gojyou, but I've got quite a bit more percolating in my head. It has yet to be edited, still needs a good deal of expanding, and I'm not entirely happy with the voice, but what the heck. I'll C&P it here anyway. It will be interesting to see how what I've written below compares to the final product.

It's a start.

Hakkai liked thinking. He began by using it as a coping strategy through the long, lonely years in the orphanage, where he hadn't been like they other children and everyone had known it. Once one fell into the habit of constantly thinking, it was a hard practise to break, even if one now possessed friends who made the escapism unnecessary.

Hakkai was modest about many things, and pretended modesty on many more, but he did pride himself on his ability to observe, consider, and discern, objectively and impartially

So he appreciated those moments that made him realise he was not always right, that threw him off his guard, all the more when they did occur.

For instance, he'd been completely wrong about Gojyou.

This was all the more alarming and fascinating because Gojyou was his friend. He had known Gojyou for years and apparently he had been wrong about him for years.

Because Hakkai was an impartial and objective observer, he was well-equipped to understand the faults of those around him. For instance, Sanzou tried to hard to affect world weariness and cynicism, Gokuu was too naive and trusting (and thus susceptible to disappointment at Sanzou's hands), and Gojyou was a womanizer.

Hakkai had only ever been with ... one woman ... but he knew that no woman wanted a man who slept around. Hakkai knew that Gojyou was deceiving the women he was with, and that he made them cry. Hakkai loved many things about Gojyou - his optimism, his energy, his resilience, but womanizing was Gojyou‘s one failing in Hakkai‘s eyes.

He envied Gojyou, but Gojyou’s womanising was the one point that kept Hakkai’s envy from souring, and for that he was thankful, even if he felt sorry for the women Gojyou used.

Hakkai knew that women only wanted one man, and that if they slept with a man like Gojyou, it was not without misgivings before and after the act, and that many of them were only doing it out of the belief or desperate hope that sleeping with Gojyou would make him stay.

It never occurred to Hakkai that just maybe, some of those women who kept coming back might be coming back because sex with Gojyou was fun.

Because it was common knowledge that women couldn’t truly enjoy sex unless it was with someone they loved.

It took having sex with Gojyou before Hakkai came to understand this.

Because having sex with Gojyou was fun. He’d had no idea it could be fun like that.

It was disorienting at first. Because Hakkai had only ever had sex with...Kanan. That had been beautiful, and deep, and left him shaking to the very depths of his soul afterwards.
