...did the New York Times just name AEW's very own MJF as one of its best performances of 2020?
OH YES THEY DID.
And that is exactly what I needed after a week of 12-hour workdays. NYT--probably wisely--does not try to summarize the backstory that led to Le Dinner Debonair and the awesomeness that was "Me and My Shadow", but they do recognize its awesomeness on a national platform (although they are very, very wrong to call it less than spectacular, and to say that AEW's athleticism is sometimes more exciting than what happens on That Other Promotion).
Because holy crap, there has been a ton of exciting stuff this year. Off the top of my head:
Best Friends vs. Santana & Ortiz's Parking Lot Brawl
Sonny Kiss & Joey Janela's gas station promo.
The glorious Stampede match from Double or Nothing.
Mr. Brodie Lee turning the creepy up to eleven.
And the ridiculousness of the Bubbly Bunch shenanigans.
Big Swole's awesome rivalry with Britt Baker, culminating in an insanely good body horror PPV set piece.
Brandon Cutler's unabashed D&D geekery. Pretty Peter Avalon's rebirth as The Continental 2.0.
Austin Gunn's reactions during every. Single. Match.
The Acclaimed's wickedly snide diss tracks.
Taz and Excalibur's banter. Botswanawana. Battlefield, Alabama. Marko Stunt was a foundling, actually.
And Private Party. Top Flight. Team Taz. The epic Kenny Omega-Adam Page breakup. Swole. Britt. Sonny and Joey. Ryzin. The Dark Order. Eddie Kingston v. Mox, and Eddie slowly losing his mind after. Sean Spears News Network. Nyla Rose's face after Vickie laid into her, and how much that hurt. Lindsay Snow and Katalina Perez and Thunder Rosa and Leyla Hirsh. ABADON. Aubrey Edwards (my future wife!).
It is consistently some of the best stuff going on TV.
