Friday Flora: Checking In With The Vines (+ Bonus Fauna)

I have a lot of plants, and eventually I'll feature them all, but not this week. This week, we have another update on the saga of the a-hole vines.


First, the fuzzy melon, which during the course of one night managed to sneakily colonize the bicycle.


I won't be going for a ride anytime soon, but at least there are three melons maturing now, so I'll have some tasty stir fry in the future.



Next up, the loofah. I may have started this one too late to get any loofahs out of it before the first frost, but it is still growing great guns.

Ever since Okinawa, loofah vine mounding up on a trellis has been synonymous with summer to me.



My city is home to several albino squirrels, collectively known as the White Whale.


This week, I had a White Whale sighting of my own; my first since 2013.

Wow those are some great pictures! I have never seen a white squirrel before.

Thank you! I'd never seen any before moving here either. I wonder if the lack of predators and relatively plentiful food sources makes it easier for albino animals to survive in the city than in the wild.
