I follow someone on tumblr who works at an IT company and yeah every office in the world is suddenly like 'SHIT WE NEED TO GET OUR EMPLOYEES LAPTOPS', leading to the chaos you saw. Yup, and I imagine parents needing to telework and homeschool kids, as well as people buying with intent to resell at a markup online are also contributing.
Glad to hear your transition has gone smoothly! Hopefully employers in general will come out of this with a renewed appreciation for the benefits of WFH.
