Challenge #2
In your own space, talk about your fannish origin story. My fannish origin story, in 1000 words, so to speak...or rather, as much as I could fit in to ~1100 x 4500 pixels.

As it turns out ~1100 x 4500 pixels gets me to about 2005. (N.B. Minor liberties have been taken with the timeline in the interest of making things fit and/or visual appeal.)

Which fandoms, if I can ask?

LOTR of course, and I reread The Mists of Avalon until I had practically memorized it.
Firefly and The Princess Bride are also favorites.

LotR and MoA were—and still are—such foundational books for me, as well as being titles that pushed my reading skills forward tremendously. I still have vivid memories of learning specific words from them.
And Firefly and Princess Bride are both delightful, no matter how many times I revisit them.

(I think LotR and HP would be the only ones shared between ours -- I consider myself fannish about several other things, but not in a foundational way.)

I've cast a pretty wide net for what to include and why. I've only done one LoTR fanwork, and that was for an elementary school assignment, pre-Internet. And while I've done multiple HP fanoworks, they were motivated by dissatisfaction with canon. 😂 The common factor is that these are all canons that have eaten my brain at one point or another, independently of whether I've created or consumed fanworks about them.

And OH YES. XF fandom is where I cut my fandom teeth. I started out on the official message boards, then discovered the existence of alt.x-files.creative and the MKRA yahoo ML and the rest was history. I wrote some extremely bad fanfic and then some slightly better fanfic, all of which is still out there on Ao3 if you know what usernames to look for. I periodically toy with the idea of revisiting and revising them now, just to see how far I've come since those early days. But I am also terrified of peeking and seeing how bad they really were. 🤣

I love the graphic format! If I had the patience I would totally try to make one!

IME patience isn't required, as long as you're willing to roll with mistakes as they happen. XD
