Snuff is definitely one of the titles I was thinking of when I wrote that. I still have to read Unseen Academicals and Raising Steam both. Having convinced a good friend last year to give the books a try, I started rereading the entire series in publication order, so I'll get to them eventually. For me, the books get their footing around Mort and then really take off a ways after that. I think that's because you still do get the lighter hearted stories and footnotes, but the novels begin to have something to say about living and being human; they aren't just primarily pointing out how silly the genre elements can be.
