I agree that John's reaction and subsequent flirting via text was completely plausible. That it never became physical, well... in a way I'm glad that they didn't go there. I wish I'd seen your comments prior to all the outrage, how it's OOC for John, he'd never cheat etc.. Some people live in very sheltered bubbles. My biggest gripe was that Sherlock didn't pick up on it. I expected him to have known something wasn't quite right with John from a glance, as he has in the past. I also thought John shirking his duties as a father also plausible. I did wonder if Rosie was being babysat by a number of people and it just happened to be Molly's turn when Sherlock offered to help.
Mary's death - ugh. Didn't work for me as well as it did for you. I would have preferred it if she had tried to push Sherlock out of the way and got hit, or pretty much any other way instead of jumping in front of Sherlock.
Have more thoughts but I need to watch the episodes again ;)
