I'm always surprised by how much less reading I end up doing at the end of the year than I think I will particularly because it's such a good procrastination method, and I by no means need to do some tweaks to my Yuletide gift.

What I Finished Reading This Week

Made-Up – Daphne B.

Wow, I loved this. In 169 two-to-three page sections, Daphne B. explores cosmetics, influencer culture, and capitalism's (often highly gendered) techniques to get the have-nots and the almost-haves to consume by offering them the illusion of closeness with "authentic" Internet-famous proxies for faceless corporations. It's pithy, it's thought provoking, it's razor sharp, and it is well worth the read.

What I Am Currently Reading

In A Dark Wood – Mark Cadnum
Still savoring this year’s reread.

The Two Towers – J.R.R. Tolkien
The chapters I read this week (The Uruk-Hai to Helm’s Deep) are weirdly the ones that I have the strongest memory of having first read in April, many, many years ago.

What I’m Reading Next

This week I picked up a copy of Scythe by Neil Shusterman, and Sarah Gailey’s Upright Women Wanted, courtesy of Tor.
