What I Just Finished Reading

The Midnight Court – Ciaran Carson
Carson’s translation of this 18th century poetic criticism of Irish society was excellently done, including the introduction that (perhaps unfortunately) does a great job of outlining all the cleverness of the original it isn't possible to capture in translation.

A Court of Thorns and Roses – Sarah Maas
I wanted a brainless book with brainless characters doing inconsistent and mindless things, and boy did this deliver.

What I Am Currently Reading

Tithe – Holly Black
Black’s fey are a wonderful palette cleanser after Maas.

Japanese Grammar - Keiko Uesawa Chevray & Tomiko Kuwahira
This is the Japanese grammar book I have been searching for.

Chinese Character Guide - Erin Quirk
For its useful overview of stroke names and variants.

The Sisters of the Winter Wood – Rena Rossner
Rossner’s novel is built on contrasts—Jewish/Christian, female/male, prose/verse, race, ethnicity—and I’m very much enjoying it.

The Truth About Fat – Anthony Warner
Warner writes excellently when he’s summarizing the status of and debates within the scientific study of obesity, but far too much of the word count consists of a repetitive polemic arguing points to which his readers probably agreed before they started reading.

What I'm Reading Next
Probably Laurie Marks’ Fire Logic.
