New week, new reading list.

What I Just Finished Reading

The Virtu – Sarah Monette
Dark, but not ceaselessly so, with excellent world-building and multiple reveals that I didn't know were coming till they crept up behind me and got the cord around my throat. Damn, this was a good book.

Square – Mac Barnett & Jon Klassen
This does not pick up where Triangle left off, but don't let that dissuade you from reading. Square is charming and delightful, and I recommend it to all.

What I Am Currently Reading

The Fifth Season – N.K. Jemisin
I know it's a huge phenomenon, but halfway through, this book has failed to grip me. There are indeed some passages that convey the horrors of child abuse or grief or racial discrimination with stomach-turning accuracy, but maybe I've just read too much dystopian YA recently for much of this narrative to really stand out.

Ancillary Justice – Ann Leckie
This is world-building I can get behind.

Circe – Madeline Miller
It was a long, painful wait for Miller's second novel, but thus far, utterly worth it. Her prose is just beautiful; my eyes want to linger over every word.

Corambis – Sarah Monette
One chapter in and so far, so good. I'm glad to see Mehitabel getting her own passages. That said, I'll probably take this one somewhat slowly until I finish some of the books above.

What I'm Reading Next

The City of Brass – S.A. Chakraborty
The setting and premise look intriguing; here's hoping these characters don't think and act like 21st century transplants into Chakraborty's setting.
