So, another self-proclaimed gay male evangelist has taken it upon himself to "correct" female slash authors who "incorrectly" portray "gay" men in their slash fics. Now, I could go off on a big long rant about how my sexual fantasies should never have to reflect the "reality" of your political sexual orientation, but writing that entry would consume way more time than I want to expend at the moment. So I'll content myself with this nice little rantlet/food tidbit for thought:
Many people (women as often as men) complain about the "feminization" of the uke in a slash pairing. "Feminization" is used here to mean OOCing a canon character into a weeping, sentimental, emotional wreck.
To which I respond: since when in the name of hell are weeping, sentimentality, and emotional instability inherently FEMININE traits?
Cause, you know, I know plenty of women who are quite happy to bang 'em and forget 'em, and plenty of men who get upset over a one nighter not meaning something more to her.
I get twice as pissed off over the use of this term when it's employed by a someone arguing that slash doesn't portray their sexuality "accurately."
