I'd made plans to have a nice long evening of American!Queer as Folk and I Love The Eighties with a very good friend I hadn't seen in ages. We were both looking forward to this evening with all kinds of enthusiam.
Cue Mutual Friend, who gives me a call - "Want to do something today?"
"Nope, sorry, I'm busy."
"Doing what?"
"Housework."
"I'll come over and help."
"No, that's fine."
But she comes over anyway. I left a message with a family member to have her tell my friend, when she called, that I was out with Mutual Friend, but would be back soon.
But oh no, Mutual Friend, sensing a get together on the winds, drove over to Friend 1's house.
And there we were. Unable to get rid of her. I finally made it home. She stayed at my friend's house, while my friend bathed and finally went to bed.
I am perfectly fine when Mutual Friend says that she would like to do something with me, sans Friend 1, but far be it from the reverse to occur.
It makes me angry because she ruined an evening which had been planned well in advance, and did not contribute any useful conversation or amusement when she did get us together. ("I dunno. What do you guys want to talk about? No, that's boring." And so on.) And it was quite obvious that her intent was to keep us from enjoying our own company.
She does not like either of the shows we'd planned to watch. ("The eighties are so boring!" and "Gay people are icky!") Likewise, she does not read, and therefore cannot be included in any discussion of books in which we might try to engage her.
So what was the point, aside from shrewishness and jealousy?
All she's accomplished is to make myself and Friend 1 not want to spend time with her in the near future.
