After two hours (and eight store visits), I managed to find a copy of the Za HtY with the Tatsumi sidestory in it, and there was much rejoicing. Muchos gracias to
luxetumbra and
cathion for the hints that led me to identifying this bastard.
Anyway, the story is cute, but not really anything we haven't seen in the manga proper, so those of you who can't find a copy of the monthly aren't missing much storywise. (BTW,
cathion, the ZHtY is like a 3-inch thick Ichi Raci. So if you're still looking for it, don't expect something with the dimensions of an Asuka or Reijin.)
Basically, Tatsumi wakes up, cooks, goes to work, terrifies people, gives life lectures, and then manages to bilk money out of various people. All the usual suspects make appearances, including Hisoka, Tsuzuki, Watari, 002, Endo, Hajime, Terazuma, and references to Tatsumi's mom. [Insert tried and tired 'Yo mama' joke here.]
The art resembles that from the final chapters of YnM, as opposed to the earlier ones. I can't decide which I like better; whichever I happen to be looking at at the moment seems off. At any rate, Hisoka and Tsuzuki's facial proportions seem rounder, the eyes and hair are more lifelike, and they eyebrows have that heavily penciled-in feel. One thing I do like is that Matsushita now draws eyes with a very Asian look. (Brown hair and purple, green, or blue irises aside, the characters are supposed to be Japanese, so I like this new look.)
To answer some (of my own) previous questions, ZHtY is an all-yomikiri publication, which makes me think that Matsushita and/or Hakusensha are testing the waters to see if there is still interest in YnM proper. (Of course, more people might demonstrate more interest if the issue wasn't so damn hard to find, she grumbles...) I know I'll be filling my little card in: I read the story. I loved the story. It was the best thing I've read all year (sorry Sugiura, but sometimes white lies are unavoidable!). I didn't read anything else in the issue. Start publishing the damn series again, already!
At any rate, there are a few things that give me hope: the second page of the story mentions what a big seller the YnM tanks are, and calls YnM 'The recent beloved series.' Likewise, on the second page from the end there's a little insert in which Matsushita (I presume) apologises to readers and other related people for the long delay and promises to 頑張ります from here on out. They also published her new contact info. This could just be formality at work, but it could mean that they're planning on reintroducing the series, or at least feeling out the possibility, so cross your fingers, folks!
So, yeah, cute. I'm sure scans are going to start popping up on the net in a day or so, so you can all look forward to that.

Thank you for the summary!
Tatsumi wakes up, cooks, goes to work, terrifies people, gives life lectures, and then manages to bilk money out of various people.
lol, this description makes me picture him as some sort of divine Yakuza, squeezing people for protection money.
which makes me think that Matsushita and/or Hakusensha are testing the waters to see if there is still interest in YnM proper.
Ah, that's a trick question isn't it? Of course there's interest Hakusensha, duh. Hisoka needs to get his darn Shiki already and I need to find out what happen to Muraki, so YES, THERE'S INTEREST. >:D
Thank you so much!

You're quite welcome for the summary. I'm a bit busy at the moment, but I'll try and whip out a proper translation in a day or two if no one else beats me to it.
Yeah, I really wish they'd continue the story, because there's this great plot bunny in my head about Hisoka, and Murasaki, and Hisoka's dad, and I haven't written it because I hate getting Jossed. So just start the series again before I go nuts, kthx.

Summary much appreciated, since I don't know if this critter will make it to Sasuga (they do get the regular HtY). It is really good to know that the author of YnM hasn't dropped off the face of the earth.
Mob name? Somehow, Hermes "The Historian" Trismegistus doesn't quite have that "Talk or I start slicing fingers" ring to it... (and LOL, how did you come to pick Hermes Trismegistus anyway?)

Of course. As in, I wrote a story where Spike turns Buffy and they make their own happy household vampire coven. But then Spike **** in ep *** and my story totally got Jossed.
Yeah, her last published chapter in Yami proper was a year ago last December. I've heard various reasons for her disappearance, but none of them more likely than the next.
As for the mob name, I never said I'd make an effective mobster! As far as the choosing goes, I got my first deck of Tarot cards at the age of eight. From there it was just a small step to the Golden Dawn, Qabbalah, and Gnosticism. Good ole Hermes was popping up every time I turned around, and I like the guy, so there you have it.

Oh, yes. "To get Jossed" is when you spend oodles of time laboring on your fanfic -- only to have
Minions of Satanthe producers come out with an episode showing your fanfic's basis is Wrong Wrong Wrong. A common occurrence for anyone crazed enough to attempt speculative fanfic based on a Joss Whedon show. ;_;From:

♥! But only if you have time. ^_^;;
I haven't written it because I hate getting Jossed
Heck you should write it anyways. I'd love to see your take on this whole mess. :D

Hisoka needs to get his darn Shiki already
You know, if I didn't know perfectly well what a shiki is, I'd be tempted to ask "Is that what they're calling it nowadays?"
Ahem. Extracting mind from gutter now.

Noooo! Don't care about Hisoka and Muraki -- need more of the vaguely slashy dragon interaction! (Also more Kuro-chan.)
