I can't wait until the day we're finally married. And now it's time for some giddy fangirling goodness:
I finally managed to get my hands on the March issue of Reijin today. This undertaking has been in the works for about a week, during which my attempts were foiled either by clouds of my students or the cute guys manning the register. (It's always the old women until the day I try to buy porn; go figure.)
The overall lineup looks pretty decent, but for now, let's stick with the Bohra. Because we love the Bohra so very, very much.
So far she's covered cannibalism(?), werewolves, dead animal spirits, veterinarians, amputees, and demons and house husbands galore (and those are just my favorites). And she draws the best oyaji ever.
And she still manages to stumble on more of my kinks. For instance, this month we cover one of my favorites: priests. (You there, stop laughing!) We have another oyaji/shonen pairing (55/17). Mom's in the hospital, and the aikido instructor/abbot of a rural mountain temple has been taking care of her kid since he was seven.
Forty-eight pages of souzou/gi-wearing, mugonde, kibishikute, ever-so-delightfully-conflicted foster-parent oyaji priest and his persistent adoptive son. It's bliss!
Her illustrations are as gorgeous as ever, and the chibis are as funny as ever (Bohra's got a great sense of comedic timing). I think the reason I like her stories so much is that she manages to convey a great deal through her illustrations: three pages in and I'm already attached to these characters. (Granted, I'm predisposed to like anything she draws, but she truly has talent for conveying a sense for who her characters are with minimal backstory. A few pages and I feel like I know quite a bit about the main cast - because it's all been conveyed through her illos.)
So, gah! I love it. And with that said and done, it's time for me to return to, you know, work.
