I've been reading fics recently like no one's business. I've made it to Chapter 14 of A Wizard's Song, and let me just say: nice.

I thought the characterisation of Snape slipped for a little bit in the series, but it's nicely back on track again. And the obsession! The angst!

"You destroy me." Yum.

The sex is hot, and wouldn't I just love to see Alan Rickman in those dress robes. Or doing those things to me.

I like the way the Furies are written, but find them distracting, because I keep expecting them to be Gaiman's Furies, and they aren't, exactly.

The walled defenses of Harry's mind also remind me of Pernicia's domain in McKinley's Spindle's End.

And can I say Hosannah! and Glory to Telanu in the highest for actually writing believable twincest? I luv twincest (there really isn't a kink that can squick me) but it's ruined by so many immature authors who use the tired this-is-the-wizarding-world-not-the-Muggle-world-so-people-are-okay-with-incest cop out. Erm. Many things are different in the wizarding world, but I have a hard time believing incest is one of them. So kudoz for writing it well.

Now if she would only write a few gratuitous make out scenes.

Picky, picky! Which parts? He *was* gorgeous though, doing it, wasn't he?

...I keep expecting them to be Gaiman's Furies, and they aren't, exactly.

It's a bit different for me - I recognize them as Gaiman's Medusa sisters: They fit the idea of a faceless, kindly, yet menacing group of sisters for me in Telanu's version of the Furies. (I think the G...Gor... forget the actual name, ^^; Medusa sisters come out in the Kindly Ones...? When Daniel's mother is searching for the Furies in a dream haze.) I'm so terrible with names.

The walled defenses of Harry's mind also remind me of Pernicia's domain in McKinley's Spindle's End.

Does this Spindle's End feature a broken, orphaned, yet dashing hero who is likely to commit damage to himself if more bad things come his way? And walled defenses...mmmmmmm. Cuz that would be more fun than a barrel of badgers.

And you liked the twincest? That was the one thing that threw me out of the story - the twin lovin' came from outta the blue. It felt a bit tacked on to me... I'm so ashamed of myself for not loving the twincest, yet. Yet.

I very much liked when Harry was being chased after by the twins tho - more in the earlier stories when it was done a bit more chastely... ^^;; (More black shame.)

Hark, Ye Readers of ::A Wizard's Song::

For I shall hold forth, verily, upon that fanfiction:

On Characterisation:
Well, I don't remember exactly which parts I found to be OOC for Snape, but they were toward the beginning of the fic. I'll make note of them the next time I reread it.

On The Three Sisters:
I believe "Gorgon" is the word you are looking for, non? And again, it's been about a year since I reread The Sandman, although it's been on my list of Stuff To Do, Dammit. Course, I'm head over heels in love with Promethea at the moment. Awesome comic.

On Walls and McKinley:
Nope. Sorry. Spindle's End features several kickass female charas (it's a retelling of "Sleeping Beauty"). It's also McKinley's second best book, Beauty being her best.

Interesting thing about Spindle's End is that while it isn't even remotely m/m slashy, I found plenty of f/f undertones throughout the story. I'd love to take them out and play with them, but McKinley doesn't like fanfiction to be written based on her series. And unlike anne rice some authors, I respect her talent enough not to write fanfic.

On Twincest:
Really - I caught wind of that one right from the beginning. The "one of the stately old homos of England" line, or thereabouts, when they gift Harry with the Manual, made me say, "Hmmm, they're really chill about the whole gay thing. Wonder if they're doing each other."

And don't be ashamed. Twincest makes Trismegisti everywhere very, very happy young ladies.
