Challenge #13
In your own space, share a favorite memory about fandom: the first time you got into fandom, the last time a fanwork touched your heart, wild times with fellow fans (whether on-line or off-line), a lovely comment you’ve received or have left for someone. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
Years ago, I sent ma soeur the first season of Adventure Time on DVD. Technically, it was a gift for my (at the time very young) nephew, but I had a feeling the writing would appeal to his parents as much as the colors, voice acting, and character designs would appeal to him. I was right on all counts.
Ma soeur called to squee to me about how they all loved it. In turn, I squeed back at her about my undying love for Tree Trunks, because everything about Tree Trunks--from her overreaction to a fly on her pie, to her good-natured Dunning-Krueger evaluation of her adventuring prowess--is pretty much the closest anything's come to capturing my own quirks and flaws in animated form.
We were both very sad when Polly Lou Livingston, her voice actor, passed away last year, particularly as, in the years since I sent those DVDs, we'd watched the series together several times during visits, and were both currently rewatching it in our respective homes.
So I was both surprised and absolutely delighted to open my Thingsgiving present from ma soeur last year to find this:

This hand-crocheted Tree Trunks has occupied pride of place on my bedside table ever since. She is definitely a fanwork that touched my heart 💖 and one that brought our fandom interaction over Adventure Time full circle.
