2022 Snowflake Challenge Goals In Review
Less than two days to the New Year, so I might as well get started on the "year in review" memes. Seeing as Snowflake Challenge also starts on the first, and as I put together a list of goals as part of this year's challenge, let's see how I did.

Challenge #2
In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
Reading goals:
If I make a to-do type list there’s a pretty good chance I won’t stick to it for long. Last year I put together a a list of 50 books to see how many of the books, out of those I felt I might like to read last year on January 8th, I actually did read by December 31st—and I read 30 of them! That’s a pretty good record, so here’s this year’s listI read 18 of the books from this year's list, jettisoned an additional three without reading them, and read an additional three from 2021's list.

Challenge #2

Reading goals:
- As always, read at least 100 books cover-to-cover, something I have only ever failed to do twice in the last two decades.
- This I did manage, having read 101 books as of today. While far more of them were in English than in previous years, and many of them were short, others were absolute bricks, so I think it's a wash.
- End the year with fewer than 180 unread books in my place. Right now I have 201.
- This too was a qualified success; I currently have 173 unread books in my place, many of which only materialized this month.
- Read three books for every new book I acquire.
- I stopped keeping track of this when I got sick this summer, at which time I probably also stopped sticking to it.
- Index all my book reviews so that they’re discoverable. I did this religiously until 2009; it’s time to get back into the habit.
- Haha, nope.

Activity goals:
- Do pilates, stretching, or yoga more regularly.
- Nope, my favorite yoga group is still not meeting post-pandemic, and my place is not configured for this activity.
- Sit zazen more regularly.
- Haha, nope. That said, the zendo is back to in-person sessions, so my plan is to start going again in 2023.
- Strength train at least once a week.
- Surprisingly, I've managed to do this pretty well, and it was the activity goal I was most skeptical I'd accomplish at the time I composed this list. This is largely thanks to the acquisition of resistance bands and a pair of free weights. While I remain far too lazy to actually go to the gym, if the equipment is already here and requires no change of clothes...
- Go to BJJ regularly once sessions resume.
- Alas, while sessions have resumed, they are now occurring in a location only accessible by car, and I refuse to drive anywhere except to transit inaccessible jobsites when work requires.
- Take a 3 to 5 mile walk most days of the week.
- I have done moderately well at this, she says cautiously, but there is much room for improvement.
Creativity goals:
- Fill one lined journal.
- Nope, although I am very, very close.
- Fill at least ½ of one art journal.
- I don't even think I touched an art journal this year, unfortunately.
- Finish my Baldur’s Gate playthrough.
- No, although that's entirely the fault of fucking microsoft force-upgrading my computer, after which the game stopped running on it. I am frustrate.
- Learn at least ten new Irish flute tunes, solidly.
- I have learned several tunes, solidly. But did I learn all of them this year? I can't recall.
- Make icons! For a long time, I've been content to use two, but I'd like to have some more.
- Nope.
- Paint more minis.
- As I did not specify how often or how many when composing the list, I can count this as a success. ^.~
Language goals
- Finish Transparent Languages Indonesian.
- Nope.
- Work through one Japanese language resource from beginning to end.
- Finish Transparent Languages Korean.
- Nope! All of this is largely because as of February I've been doing seven languages in Duolingo, and it's so much easier to fire up the app for 15 minutes a day than it is to sit down with a textbook or in-depth resource like Rosetta or Transparent.
- Work through one resource in another language from beginning to end.
- I read James Neil Sneddon's Indonesian: A Comprehensive Grammar
Writing goals:
- Complete
getyourwordsout. In previous years I signed up for the habit challenge; this year I’m doing wordcount. I’d like to hit my word count goal exclusively through fiction writing. I haven’t yet decided if I want that to be finished product (i.e., edited, completed stories) or just total words on a page.
- Not even close.
- Complete
inkingitout.
- Again, not even close.
- Post at least one piece of fiction to AO3 a month (even if it is only a drabble).
- I hardly posted a fic a month; however, if I can squeeze in a drabble or short fic tomorrow I will have at least posted 12 pieces this calendar year.
- Participate in at least three exchanges.
- I participated in five this year, so I actually did pretty well on this one!
