Friday Flora: Porque Non Los Dos Edition
Today was Car Maintenance day, for which I rose early. As this took me outside the city, and I had several hours to cool my heels, and it was too rainy to walk around outside, I opted to walk around in a nearby Suburban Ur-Mart instead.
Suburban Ur-Mart had a variety of fetching houseplants on display. I had a credit card from whose issuer I had recently received a sternly worded letter advising me that they were going to close the account if I didn't buy something with the card soon. Closing the account, of course, would lower my credit score which is a) bullshit, and b) not something I'm keen to have happen while I'm in the midst of finding a new place to live.
This was a problem I could mediate with a new plant.

Of course, I walked away with two, because I did not already have a peace lily or a dark purple quill plant and the prices were better than in the city, so why not both?

I already have a pink quill, which finished flowering and has already pupped at least three baby plants, so I feel like I'm already on good footing with the purple quill.

The credit system in this country is insane when it can lower your credit score *not* to be in debt!

Apparently the industry term for people (like me) who do not carry a balance is "waste." Which tells you everything you need to know right there.

It also means, as we use 'cash back' cards, we get a lot of 'free' money at the same time.;D

No, no, that is precisely what makes you waste, because you are only making money for the card issuer through merchant swipe fees--and costing them money by utilizing cashback and rewards points. Whereas an issuer's profits are optimized by individuals who carry "manageable" balances (i.e., not big enough to tip the user into insolvency and prevent the issuer from collecting them). In other words, people with excellent credit are the definition of wastes from the card issuer's perspective, because they don't generate profit from interest or late fees.

Even though the credit card thing is stupid at least you were able to get something you liked.
