Although broom closets are more Sophie's style than fields, I seem to remember that she wasn't above a good cry or two in the book.

And as for Howl, we may feel better if we keep in mind that the setting goes from modern-day Wales to a sort of late-Victorian countryside setting, where people were adults a lot younger than they are now. -vOv- (hasn't seen the preview and is going to feel silly if he ends up looking twelve)

Another reason to be hopeful is, Wynne-Jones just doesn't leave a lot of room for other people's crack.
