In Which Tris Summarises Kyou Kara Maoh

The dangerous duo gave me the first few episodes of Kyou Kara Maoh the last time we were in Tokyo. Facing increasingly frequent queries as to whether I've watched it yet, I figured I'd do a write-up of it here.

I should have done this right after watching the videos, except who would have thought summarising would be so hard?

Anyway, Kyou Kara Maoh is the story of hapless school boy Sawa Rakan Shibuya Yuuri, who's sucked into another universe where he's destined to become the true 皇子 魔王. Young Raenef Yuuri is bound to make a mess of this situation, as he just doesn't why humans and demons must fight one another, which annoys the elegant, dark-haired Eclipse Gwendal Von Walde. Comedic high jinx also ensue between Botchan Yuuri and Gremio Gunter, his devoted servant, although this situation is complicated by Yuuri's accidental betrothal to the caustic, green-eyed Kurosaki Hisoka Wolfram von Bielefeld. The cast is completed by sleek, stylish military man Roy Mustang Konrad Weller, who will probably soon have a thing for our boy as well.

That said, it should be noted that KKM has the cutest closing credit I have ever seen.

....hahahaha.... can't get away from the overlap, can you? =3

for some inexplicable reason, wolfram's my fave char - i'm just waiting to see if he grows out of his uke tendencies =/

The overlap is why it's great. I mean, the series is supposed to be a sendup, isn't it? It sure does is sending-up well.

My favorite would have to be Gunter. The devoted servant is one of my biggest kinks, evah. Gwendal comes in second, because he's gorgeous and snappy.

So my parents are visiting, and I've been dispatched to go take care of some of my grading before we go out leaf-viewing in Connecticut later today (it's an extra pretty day and the leaves are reaching their peak). I do a quick LJ check before settling in to grade, and my mother comes in and says "Are the exams THAT funny?"

Darn it... now I have to go download subs of ANOTHER series?? (The scary thing is that I understood all the cross-refs except Botchan and Gremio.)

Yes, you should go and dl the subs, because it really is a cute series. I'm not usually a fan of straight fluff, but this is straight fluff done so well.

Botchan and Gremio are from the original Suikoden RPG, and take slashy subtext to new levels of not so sub.

Oh, and of course exams are THAT funny. What else would you have been laughing at?

CONYUU CONYUU. all the way. and incidentally, i think my favorite closing creds EVER are the second ending theme for naruto, where everyone is chibified and marching across the screen?

Yup, and KKM didn't rip that idea off at all. Nope. Not at all...

KKM

sad when it seems there's no imagination for anime anymore, but KKM is actually the only one I am currently keeping up with. The slashy plays (especially Wolfram in Yuuri's bed and liberal use of water) and comedy between all the characters gives the fangirl (me) lots of fun. (the plot needs more work and less filler) But still would recommend it.

I dunno. I think there's a lot of imagination anime could draw from, except it seems to keep getting dumbed down from the manga originals. (FMA and Saiyuki being two examples that spring immediately to mind.)

The thing with KKM is that I don't mind the filler, because the series itself is fluffy brain candy. Thus, the filler is less insulting than in other anime, where it detracts from an actual, serious plot.
