I absolutely loved The Alchemist when I read it literally a decade ago, so I'm deathly afraid of reading it again for fear it will read just like the same slick feel-good crap that all the rest of his books are. :/

Ahaha, I've avoided rereading many books from 10+ years ago for precisely that reason. And I've found novels from my childhood can be painful too. Even when they're still objectively good it's a different experience with an adult imagination and when 10 pages don't take days to get through.

I have read the English translation; I'm not terribly far into the Indonesian one but thus far reading it in a less familiar language makes it seem more atmospheric, as does the fact that Indonesian has a lot of Arabic loanwords, which also makes it more vivid to me.
