Or, why couldn't I just have gotten into Hetalia like everybody else?
So I actually read the damn 容疑者Xの献身 novel the other day. The idea was that I'd get a better idea of the characters' psychologies and a feel for the proper atmosphere for this fanfic I seem to be writing despite myself. The result was that I was reminded that what psychologies the characters do possess were bestowed upon them by the actors, not the author and more to the point, why I gave up on the novellas in the first place (because they suck). Also, I would love to beat Higashino Keigo to death with a baseball bat the way he beats his readers to death with 「のだ」.
And if the movie had Gaping Plot Holes, the novel had GAPING PLOT HOLES: the movie adaptation actually improved the storyline by ignoring large parts of the novel. It gives me hope that not all amazon jp reviewers thought it was the shit. (Although most of them seem to criticise the characters' motivations over the massive narrative blind spots that turn the "perfect crime" into something any decent cop should have been all over in a heartbeat.)
Which is probably just a very crai moar way of saying I think I might actually like the movie more than the book.
And if that weren't bad enough, I appear to be writing large portions of the fic in Japanese.
