Tuesdays are time service days at the local grocery, which means that the prices on the food I'd most like to eat are marked down to levels approaching what one would pay in the west on a bad day. As such, I try to do all my grocery shopping on Tuesdays. If one spends enough money, one can spin the lottery wheel at the checkout and win such desirable prizes as tissues or promotional Kirin glasses too small to take a shot out of.

Last Tuesday I spun the lottery wheel and walked away with something very much worthwhile - a Howl's Moving Castle shitajiki. I was just tickled, and the lottery ladies were highly amused by my reaction. (It's one of my favorite books in English, I told them. They smiled.)

Yesterday I happened to wander into my neighborhood Lawsons, where I discovered that they are handing out Howl's Moving Castle promotional posters. These things are big - they're actually three posters in one, depending on how one unfolds the eight A4-size panels. Needless to say, I grabbed several like the rabid DWJ/Ghibli fangirl I am and they are currently adorning the walls in my apartment. I am quite pleased.

Incidentally, the movie opens on the 20th of next month; I can't wait.

In small ways, life is very good.

Well, if you aren't leery of giving info out over the Internet, I could always grab one or two more & mail them to you. They're free, and the combini attendants think I'm odd as it is, so it's no skin off of my back;)

ditto on the jealousy. ahhh, I miss combinis!

I only just read HMC for the first time, and it instantly went on my favorite books list without me even thinking about it, which hasn't happened in a goodly long time. Verra curious to see what Miyazaki & Ghibli does with it.

Isn't is such a great book? I have faith in Miyazaki even if Howl looks ten years too young and is voiced by (gag me) Kimutaku because his Sophie is perfect.

Combinis are wonderful, as I discover to my horror every time I return Stateside and try to eat gas station food. Big no-no right there.

Fantastic book. upon finishing it I immediately wanted to pick it up and read it straight through again, as I haven't done in years.
And the pics of Sophie I've seen look fantastic. Howl...the one problem, my sister and I agreed, is that Miyazaki does not do bishounen (biseinen), and while usually this doesn't bother me, in this case, Howl is so classically a bishie...

combinis...I swear I want to go back to Japan just to eat one of those curry pan donut-whatever-things. and onigiri. mmmmm.

Really? My problem with Howl (aside from the fact that he's Hyakku from Sen to Chihiro) is that he's too bishounen, and not biseinen enough for me. Or perhaps it's just that the Howl in my head is bishi, but he's a British bishi, and they're a different breed.

I know. I've recently fallen prey to agepiza - the deep-fried pizza subspiecies of [x]-man, which is what you're talking about above. There's a reason Gokuu likes those things so much.

Yup. I'm trying to ignore the advert for collectible figurines on the back of the flyers.

Posters received! They're gorgeous. My mother also was admiring (she reads Diana Wynne Jones too, and has watched/enjoyed Spirited Away, so is looking forward to Howl.)

Thank you very much indeed. If there's anything I can send your way from England, please let me know.

Hmm. Not sure how I missed this post the first time around, but I'm glad you got them! They've just released some longer trailers for the movie over here, and I'm quickly being won over. (Moreso than I already am, that is!)
