Addison said--I believe in a Reddit AMA--that Csevet Aisava is marnei/gay but (paraphrasing here) she couldn't find a way to make that explicit in the narrative itself while still respecting the character's privacy or interior world. Which I actually think is really cool, and it works really well in the book.
